CyTuVax – Finalist STEP AWARD 2017

CyTuVax from Maastricht has reached an honorary spot in the final of the STEP Award competition 2017, organized by the F.A.Z.-Fachverlag among others publishing the well-known Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In a group of over 500 promising startups active in either Science, Technology or the category Information / Communication, CyTuVax got to the last 10 participants joining in the final.

The STEP Award has been presented by the F.A.Z. on an annual basis since 2006 to enterprises with an innovative and unique technology. The competition stimulates strong growth potential in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with a decisive “STEP” in further development of each participant to become a more mature company. As a part of CyTuVax’s pre-clinical research activities is done at the University of Bochum, CyTuVax was able to qualify for this German-speaking enterprise competition. The high score in this challenge was achieved through the following selection criteria: (potential) market, level innovation of applied technology, financial justification and team potential and composition, ultimately leading to a spot in the 2017 final.

CyTuVax is currently running a Phase II study by using its adjuvant containing depot formulated cytokine aggregates. Three academic clinical centers are participating: Maastricht (MUMC), Antwerpen (University Hospital) and Genk (ZOL – Hospital East Limburg). The 140 subjects in the study, who did not respond to previous vaccination for hepatitis B, are now being randomized in to a control vaccination group or a group vaccinated with CyTuVax’s HBAI20 vaccine (NCT03415672). The Phase II should reconfirm the promising outcome of the Phase I clinical trial, in which 90% of the non-responders became protected after 3 vaccinations with the new HBAI20 vaccine.

Next to the prophylactic application of CyTaVax proprietary platform technology, the therapeutic use of the adjuvant is being applied broadly. In the coming months, the pre-clinical program for the development of a tumor vaccine against pancreatic cancer will be initiated in collaboration with MUMC (Maastricht) together with RWTH / UniKlinik (Aachen).

In de STEP Award competitie voor 2017 van de F.A.Z.-Fachverlag, o.a. bekend door de Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, heeft CyTuVax B.V. uit Maastricht een eervolle finale plaats bereikt. In een deelnemers veld van meer dan 500 veelbelovende start-ups actief in Wetenschap, Technologie of Informatie / Communicatie wist CyTuVax een plek bij de laatste 10 finalisten te bemachtigen.

De STEP Award wordt sinds 2006 jaarlijks door de F.A.Z. uitgereikt om innovatieve en unieke ondernemingen met een sterk groei potentieel in Duitsland, Oostenrijk en Zwitserland te stimuleren een beslissende “STEP” verder te zetten in hun ontwikkeling als volwassen onderneming. Aangezien een deel van de met name pre-klinische research activiteiten van CyTuVax aan de Universiteit van Bochum worden doorgevoerd, kwalificeerde CyTuVax zich voor deze unieke, Duitstalige ondernemingscompetitie. CyTuVax scoorde hoog in de competitie op de verschillende selectie criteria, o.a. markt, innovatie van technologie, financiële onderbouwing en team potentieel waardoor de finale bereikt werd.

Momenteel voert CyTuVax een fase II studie door met haar adjuvant bestaande uit een depot geformuleerde cytokine in de Nederlandse en Belgische klinische centra van Maastricht (MUMC), Antwerpen (Universitair Ziekenhuis) en Genk (ZOL - Ziekenhuis Oost Limburg). De 140 deelnemers aan deze studie, die bij eerdere hepatitis B vaccinatie niet respondeerden, worden nu gevaccineerd met een combinatie van HBVaxPro10 en de adjuvant.

Naast deze profylactische toepassing van CyTuVax gepatenteerde platform technologie wordt tegelijkertijd de therapeutische inzet van de adjuvant opgeschaald. In de komende maanden start een het preklinische programma met het MUMC (Maastricht) en het RWTH / UniKlinik (Aken).
